Everything you need to know about Android Buddy connectivity, security, and setup.
Android Buddy connects primarily over your local Wi-Fi network using encrypted peer-to-peer WebRTC sockets. If local connectivity is blocked or unavailable, it can securely route via a signaling server to maintain connection, though local Wi-Fi provides the absolute lowest latency for webcam and file sharing.
Absolutely. All files, clipboard text, OTP credentials, and notification contents are transferred directly between your devices using standard end-to-end encryption. No data is stored, cached, or analyzed on external servers. Privacy is a core design principle of Android Buddy.
The macOS companion app requires a Mac running macOS Monterey (12.0) or higher, with support for both Intel and Apple Silicon chips. The Android companion app supports any Android smartphone running Android 8.0 (API level 26) or higher.
No rooting or advanced modifications are required. The companion app operates completely within Android's standard framework. You only need to grant standard system permissions like Notification Access (for OTP/replies) and Camera Access (for the webcam feature) through the intuitive setup dashboard.
Android Buddy uses hardware-accelerated H.264 streams, enabling up to 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second with under 50ms latency. Because it's integrated natively into macOS, it acts as a virtual camera, making it immediately selectable in apps like Zoom, MS Teams, Slack, and Google Meet.
